On Musical Heritage: A Use of Mythology from Wagner to Heavy Metal
One angle is to see European music history as related to the Italian and to the German (leaving out a discussion of the British, the French, the Russian, ... , but the Romantic movement brings in additional partakers in extant mythologies ... .
Leading questions: Does the Germanic development tend to re-use the Norse mythologies? ... Does the Italian development much use mythologies? But if it does, does it partake of the shared mythologies of the Romans and the Greeks? ...
Another angle is to see the mythological lineage of Germanic developments as related to Norse mythology in terms of perhaps its most famous practitioner, Wagner. Wagner also serves as the father of heavy metal. The answer as to why heavy metal references Norse mythology is loosely established in this direction.
And, of course, there are other directions for the use of mythology.
