The Fascist Label
The meaning of fascism ranges from a political position that imposes an authority for action where none much exists to a variety of, usually, right-wing political ideologies.
The authoritarian-totalitarian overweening associated with fascism tends to associate it with right-wing, fundamentalist politics, but at the same time, this overweening also serves to move it outside of right-wing politics to the politics of a militaristic state and/or the politics of a police state. Thus, the right-wing association aside, and with an acknowledgment that fascism is not generally associated with left-wing politics, the fascist imposition of authority also marks it as an ideological mode of politics rather than an ideology of the left or the right per se.
